Review: Floatation tank

After a particularly packed and hectic couple of weeks, I was feeling quite drained and stressed. My shoulders were tense, my energy levels were low and I felt in need of a holiday! I couldn't quite jet off to Bali (at least not yet!), so I decided to book myself into the Float Spa at the Wellness Centre.

I was blown away by how sophisticated and hi-tech this particular float was. When I lived in London, I went for a float at least once a month, so I knew what to expect. But the floatation tanks I used there pale in comparison to this one at the Wellness Centre - the whole experience felt luxurious, serene and rejuvenating.

From the moment I walked into the room, I felt relaxed. After a quick shower, I eased myself into the pod and got used to feeling ‘weightless’. The water has a very high concentration of Epsom salt so your whole body feels supported as you relax and let go. It’s just like what you experience in the Dead Sea, but in a very controlled and sumptuous environment. The sounds of whales and a kaleidoscope of lights helped me ease even more into the experience.

I closed the pod (you can leave it open if you like, but it's very spacious and the experience is enhanced with the pod closed). I closed my eyes, the pod went dark and a little light bulb went off in my head as I decided to try practicing Yoga Nidra whilst floating! It’s the first time I’ve ever done that and I have to say it was pretty spectacular! The two seem to go hand in hand – they both induce the Alpha brainwave state and they both help you deeply relax and let go. But practiced together the benefits seem to be amplified!

After the session, I had another shower and floated out of the room… I felt like I do after a really relaxing holiday – calm, nourished and happy :-)

If you’re like me and can’t jet off to Bali quite yet, check out the Float Spa when your body and your mind need a little break. It’s a really unique experience and we’re so lucky that it’s right here waiting for us in Jersey.... Bali can wait :-)
